DEKRA Certification, Inc. today announced that it has certified Arizona State University Office of Knowledge Enterprise Development’s management system to ISO 9001:2015 at its Tempe, AZ location. OKED Operations includes all service and support functions of the Office of Knowledge Enterprise Development, the office of Arizona State University responsible for advancing research and innovation at Arizona State University. OKED Operations includes the departments that provide administration, services and support functions of proposal development, submittal and negotiations as well as award setup, management and closeout.

“We want to congratulate ASU on this special achievement,” stated Chris Carson, Senior Director of Strategic Business Development for DEKRA Certification. “While there is no centralized database to confirm how many universities are certified globally, achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification puts them in a unique position in their field. The standard was designed to be applicable to all organizations and they have shown themselves to be a leader in quality for academia. Their hard work was apparent from the beginning as key members of their team took ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor training through AQS Solutions, a DEKRA company, early on in the process to make sure they had a complete and thorough understanding of the requirements. They were engaged with DEKRA early and we feel that made a significant impact on their system and readiness.”

The ISO 9001:2015 standard is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the role of top management, the process approach, and continual improvement. The standard provides guidance and tools for companies and organizations that want to ensure that their products and services consistently meet customers’ requirements, and that quality is continually improved.

“Preparing for the certification to ISO 9001:2015, DEKRA was very helpful and forthcoming from the initial contact, through the finalization of the agreement and finally performing the pre-assessment audit and the initial certification audit. The experience was smooth and pleasant beginning with scheduling, performing the pre-assessment audit, stage I and stage II audits. The auditors were knowledgeable, objective and understanding of our processes. The feedback during the pre-assessment audit was very valuable and effective which allowed us to be ready for the certification audit,” explains Maher Rassas, Assistant Director of Quality and Continuous Improvement.
